Summer Programme 2007

With support from the Heart of England Community Foundation, we are putting on four events during the Positive Images Festival this year.

Click on each event for the full details ...

Father's Day Picnic
On Sunday 17th June, 3pm-6pm, we invited local dads to our Father's Day Picnic, in the new Webster's Park off Stoney Stanton Road.
Peace in Palestine
The next Tuesday evening (19th June) at 7pm, we held a timely talk in the Peace House on Peace-Making in Palestine, from two Palestinian Peace Activists who are currently studying at Coventry University
Football Tournament
On Sunday 24th June, thirty young (and not-so-young) men took part in our Intercultural Football Tournament, on the Astro-Turf at Sidney Stringer.
Families Making Friends
On Sunday 1st July, from 2pm to 5pm, we ran our first Families Making Friends event, based on a similar initiative in Pendle. Six families came - Somalian, Gujerati, Burundian, Pakistani, Bulgarian and White English.

Over this period, we also

  • took part in "Sounds Positive," an inspiring evening of music and song from local singers and musicians of a range of backgrounds
  • ran a great stall at the Hillfields Gala on July 7th in the Village Square
  • continued regular sessions with the PeaceJam young people's peace and social justice group
  • set up a link between Kitagwa and John Gulson primary schools - working with volunteers, staff and children in both schools to make contact through phone calls, letters, emailed photographs and the exchange of gifts
  • ran a Global Citizenship programme for Year Six at Southfields school, for the first time.

When we get back from two weeks of recovering from all that, they'll be photos and reports on all of it - keep checking the Front Page...
