Sidney Stringer School
Sidney Stringer have been very helpful, and are keen to develop work with foleshillfields.
We began our work with them in June '06 by inviting some pupils who had been involved as pupils in the Global Citizenship work at John Gulson School in previous years, to be part of the volunteer team this year - and twenty young people took up the offer.
In July '06 we organised for twenty-five young people to complete the community service element of their Duke of Edinburgh Award by taking up volunteer placements in a range of organisations across Foleshill and Hillfields.
From February '07 we have been working with a PeaceJam group of young people from years 9, 10, 11 and 12.
As it says on the school website,
Sidney Stringer School is located in the heart of Coventry, an ethnically diverse city with a wide mix of cultures. The school serves the communities of Hillfields and Foleshill, as well as drawing students from around the city.
The school opened in 1972 as one of the first urban community schools in the country. Since then, it has built a reputation as an innovative and successful school. It was amongst the first Community Technology Colleges, and is now a Specialist School in mathematics and computing.
You can learn more about Sidney Stringer at their website.
