Hajj Stories
Local people's stories of Hajj
Going for Hajj was an amazing experience. To see three million people in one place for a common purpose was a sight to behold. Where no distinction is made between rich or poor, black or white, old and young. For me, it was extremely moving to be able to perform one of the fundamental pillars of Islam and to follow in the footsteps of the prophet Mohammed peace be upon him. Seeing the Kaaba for the first time was unforgettable, I was so moved and happy - I felt as though my heart was going to jump out of my body.
I would love to have the opportunity to be able to perform the Hajj again.

On Friday, if God wills I will be going to Makkah to perform my Hajj. I feel very privileged as this year there has been a lot of problems obtaining visas and many people have been disappointed. I feel nervous, especially about the crowds because I am claustrophobic. I have packed my woolies and sleeping bag as we will be spending one night under the stars in Muzdallifa and I am told it will get quite cold.
The one thing I am looking forward to the most is seeing the Kaaba and to be a part of something so spiritual. I hope to meet Muslims from all corners of the world to share this unique experience.
