Edgehill Football Group

Through March and April, the Edgehill lads put loads of work into the Mexico project. They put on a half-term football fun day for younger lads as a way to raise their profile and do something for the local community - and planned and started to put into operation a series of fund-raising events.

Working with ZiHabib, and with HeatherAndMark (and with invaluable help from RobinVerso), they also put in what appeared to be a very strong bid for funding for around half the costs from the British Council; made a good link with a Mexican-owned tortilla producers with a base in Coventry; and were beginning to organise a World-Cup-themed fund-raising "charity shield" tournament between teams from companies across Coventry.

Sadly, the British Council application failed. It now looks like Mexico is not on for this summer, at least. So what next?

The boys are now working towards doing something positive with the energy and momentum they have built up - starting with a short team-building residential in Wales this June, and looking to raise the money for a linking visit next year.

Edgehill Football Group are a group of young men of Bangladeshi, Gujerati, Kurdish, Pakistani, Somali and White British origins (including ifi and moody) who have set up a club and play football every Friday evening, as well as organising a range of other social activities. They have fundraised for some money to pay for pitch hire and kits.

They have been trying to set up an exchange with a similar group in Mexico, and to play a good role in the local community.

Talking in small groups ... ... about raising money.

.

On the 12th January the fourth meeting made a fundraising action plan, and shared out responsibility for getting started on everything that needs doing ...

.

On the 1st December they had a third meeting, where they prioritised their goals, made a timetabled action plan, and considered where to go if Brazil doesn't come off.

.

In their second meeting with HeatherAndMark they began to plan how to fund-raise, and talked about the aims and goals of their trip.

.

After their first meeting with Heather, we will be working with them over the next few months to try to raise money, to plan the trip and to set up the link - anyone with Brazilian links, please GetInTouchWithUs!
